The California-based company orients people through their award-winning portable GPS navigation devices. An industry innovator for three decades, they have 200+ key patents in GPS technology. Magellan asked Cogniance to partner with them in the development of their new SmartGPS—their Magellan Cloud Services. It would redefine vehicle navigation, by integrating location-relevant social media and content onto a map. And the rest, as they say, is history. It’s been performing flawlessly ever since.
Finding true north: how to build a cutting-edge GPS
UX/UI design, product management, software development, quality assurance, plus operations and project management. It was a complex co-creation project, but that’s the kind of work we thrive on at Cogniance. It encompassed three big tasks. (1) Design and development of an engaging, seamless customer experience (via the Magellan SmartGPS platform). (2) Enabling up-to-date, secure data transmission for personal navigation devices and smartphone users (across multiple mobile platforms). (3) Creating a portal to manage and integrate iOS and Android devices—as well as external data sources.
Seamlessly sharing, wirelessly synching
With Cogniance’s help, Magellan’s SmartGPS product delivered game-changing navigation. A truly modern GPS device, it’s connected to cloud services through a web portal and companion smartphone apps. Letting users easily share and sync locations, routes, and favorite places between devices. SmartGPS delivers essential real-time navigation data (traffic, weather). But it also lets users tap into the wide world of social media (Yelp, Foursquare). It’s so engaging that it even won an Innovation Award at CES. (CES is where next-generation innovations are launched onto the world stage.) SmartGPS powerfully expands the way consumers interact with their navigation devices. A connected car experience.
